| | Roddy Woomble - My Secret Is My Silence | ] | Today, i've been accused of looking like Clark Kent on 3 separate occasions! That's not something that usually happens during my daily life. I guess i could be accused of worse things. I think i might wear my boxers over my trousers to work tomorrow. |

Today i took advantage of working flexitime, and got out early to play tennis. For those of you who care, i snatched a draw from the brink of defeat, with our running out of time with the score standing at 6-7, 7-6. It was pretty draining mentally, but i'm still feeling on a bit of a high after all the exercise. Last night, i went to see Starbase 109 with David and Lotte, and though the support bands were a bit disappointing, Starbase 109 were as wonderful as ever. Everyone should go to their gigs. Later this week, i'm hoping to somehow go to see Tilly And The Wall on thursday, even though it's sold out, and then it's the Smiths night on friday. On saturday, i'm going to be ultra-cool, and make my long overdue return to competitive Pokemon playing.
Sorry, this is dull entry isn't it? |

| | The Shins- Wincing The Night Away | ] | I'm going to be starting my new job tomorrow! I was starting to worry that it would never actually happen. I saw Jarvis Cocker last night, with Carys and Helen. I really enjoyed the gig, i think mainly because the performance was so fantastic. I think the songs on his album are okay at best, but they seemed more striking when played live. I think in terms of stage presence, he's really quite unique, and i (inevitably) started thinking about how i could improve my own performances. I mean, with Jarvis, you feel like if you blink at any time, you'll miss something, and in terms of keeping the crowd engaged, you can't do any better. The polar opposite would be feeling like you could walk off for 5 minutes and not really have missed anything, and there are enough bands that applies to. Of course, i wouldn't want to be some 2nd rate Jarvis imitation frontman. That would seem somewhat unoriginal. I'll see what i can do anyway. Tonight, i'm planning to head to the Thirsty Scholar to see Billy Ruffian. It should be fun. And the tomorrow i'm going to see Narcissus at the Roadhouse. That will be 3 gigs in 3 days! Then, it's Killing Fantasy on thursday. I guess i'll be busy this week if nothing else.
Oh, and The Railway have a bunch of new gig dates. See http://www.themidlandrailway.co.uk/Forum/viewforum.php?f=2 for details. |

As you may already know, Midland Railway are in action on Saturday, at the Late Room, on Peter St. There's a load of information on the forums here: http://www.themidlandrailway.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=682 It's possibly our biggest ever Manchester gig, and please get in touch if you'd like an advance ticket or 3. It's quite exiting. We were sounding pretty good in rehearsal last night, if i may say so myself, so i'm hoping this gig will be well worth coming to. |

Maybe i'm just being really retarded here, but i don't seem to be able to get my "friend of" list to appear on my profile, and this is bad in terms of adding people who have added me to their friends list. Can someone tell me how to do it please? |

| | The Magnetic Fields - The Charm Of The Highway Strip | ] | I'm going to do the ten things you love type quiz thatc everyone seems to have been doing. Leila has ever so kindly given me the letter Z.
1) Marek Zgorski. He's been a key part of the pink Fluffy Cloud Machine midfield for several seasons now.
2) Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He's crap but thinks he's so incredibly brilliant that he's quite comical. Also, i'm finding this quiz very difficult.
3) Zinedine Zidane. He did provide entertainment, right up to the not so glorious end of his career. There must be things other than footballers beginning with Z?
4) Zebras. It is rather cool when then all lie together and you can't tell how many there are. You have to wonder how much of a problem that can actually be for lions though. I mean, if you go for the middle and bite, you're likely to get a meal arn't you?
5) Zaire. They were surely the worst ever team to qualify for a world cup. You remember the legendary free kick against Brazil?
6) Zulu Weaponary. It is unusual, generally.
7) Zombies. In heroquest, they roll 2 dice in attack and 3 in defence, move 4 spaces, and have 0 mind points and 1 body point.
8) Zombie Scavengers. It's a decent card in Magic. It featured in one of the first decks i ever built. It wqas in Weatherlight.
9) Zo-Zu, The Punisher. Both a creature and land destruction card in one!
10) Zapdos ex. I built quite a good pokemon deck based around this legendary pokemon. I always seemed to get tails when attempting the super-scoop up though. Very frustrating.
God, that was difficult. |

Starbase 109 are such a great band. They've re-mixed their song called "Vacum Cleaner", and it now sounds like one of those dancey-electro-indie type songs that are currently so fashionable, but in a really good way. Then the vocals come in, which are: "Have you checked the filter on the vacum cleaner? It isn't working anymore" and so on. It is wonderful, and everyone should listen to it. |

| | Morrissey - Vauxhall And I | ] | My band, Midland Railway, are in action next Monday (23rd October) at The Star And Garter, and i happen to think everyone in the entire world should come along.
Afterwards though, we have some gigs where i'll have to play guitar again. I'm strangely nervous about this since it's rather noticable just how much better we sound when i leave the instrument playing to other people. I may have to practice playing along to a metronome a fair bit. (By the way, this is not a search for compliments or anything. I'm just alot less good at playing the guitar than most other people.)
On a more general my life-updatey type thing, my new house is great, and my new housemates are really nice, and I've been in an unusually good mood this past week on the whole. That was helped further by having a superb time on my birthday night out type thing on saturday. Thanks everyone who came along to that. I just hope this general feeling good/things going well type thing continues.
Vauxhall And I is definitely the best of Morrissey's solo albums in my opinion. I was listening to it on the way to work today, and it's one of relatively few albums where i don't feel inclined to skip any songs at all, and I find that sentiment very unusual when listening to Morrissey's solo stuff. It doesn't have any of his really big "hits" on it though. The average person who likes The Smiths a bit, and Morrissey's most famous singles might just about know "The More You Ignore Me The Closer I Get", but i suspect most wouldn't, which makes the quality of this album all the more impressive.
I really want a ticket for the Idlewild gig in Manchester on 2nd December. I can't believe how fast they sold out, and i can't find any on ebay. Any idea where i might be able to find one? |

| | The Smiths - Unhappy Birthday | ] | I'm having something of a birthday outing this saturday night, and if you're reading this, then there's every chance that i'd like you to come. It will be starting with drinks at mine from about 7ish, and then the plan is to head Star & Garterwards. It does tend to fill up between 9 and 10 though, so it's probably a good idea to try to get there early. I'm really quite looking forward to it at the moment. I'm going to attempt to ignore "being old" issues, and just enjoy the night. |
